It hurts when you walk. The window is smashed inward. There's some blood on the shards still sticking into the sill.
You're on the first floor of a building. Outside it's crowded with strange, dark buildings. The whole area looks abandoned.
Down below you see a burning car wreck. It looks like it crashed frontally while driving in your direction.

Suddenly you hear some gunshots in the distance! They echo a little, then all is silent again.

You have to find a Froststone, or nearly die due to frigid conditions.

looking at the glass, I realize the blood is mine, I was thrown through the window, into the building.
I look at the car once mor & notice a shattered windshield

*thinking* was I inside that burning car & thrown through the windshield when it crashed?

disregarding that question for the moment, I look at myself to check my injuries... they don't seem that bad, but I could be bleeding internally so I hav to move carefully. I then look around the room to find a safe way out other than the window...

Everything indicates that you've indeed been launched from that car.

There's a door, but it's locked. It has a handle to unlock it though, maybe you can figure it out and manipulate it. Otherwise you'll have to go through the window.

um, I'm still a little confused about the whole gambling & tests thing, like this one; how would I figure out or manipulate the handle; I don't know what it looks like?

The tests are an abstraction. They speed things up. They're also useful to deal with things that would be easy for human-you to grasp, but difficult for a Pokémon.

You, as a Pokémon, see a door. Doors can be opened, you know that. There's usually a knob or something you need to move. This door has some kind of handle, but you don't recognise it as something obvious. Perhaps it's some weird design, there are probably lots of ways to open doors that you've never seen yet. This is a strange and unfamiliar area, so that kinda makes sense.

Any additional information human-you would probably understand, but would be lost to Eevee-you.

Now the question is whether, through some experimentation, Eevee-you can open the door (or whether you decide to try at all).

Now we can go though a long back-and-forth of dealing with that door from a Pokémon's point of view. That's a lot of time spent on a door.
Or we can leave it to the dice to decide whether Eevee-you succeeds at opening the door. That's a lot faster, and fair.

How much you gamble is a measure of how important succeeding is to you, and how much effort you're willing to invest.

How you succeed or fail will be described after the dice tell us which it is.

You jump up and hang on to the handle with your paws. There's some kind of lock on it, which you manage to open by manipulating it with your mouth. There's a *snap* after which the door slowly opens inward, pulled along by your weight.
You drop down and look through the opening. There's a long, dark hallway with many doors. At the far end are some stairs and an elevator shaft.
